Howard A. Katz, D.D.S.
Dr. Katz received his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the University of Maryland and did his graduate studies in Comparative Pathology at the National Institutes of Health. He then entered Howard University School of Dentistry and received his degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1980. Dr. Katz then completed a two year residency at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine.
In 1982, Dr Katz began his full time private practice incorporating dentistry and anesthesia for special needs patients. He was then hired as an anesthesia consultant for the Johns Hopkins Program for the International Education of Gynecology and Obstetrics, where he provided clinical and didactic education to physicians in developing countries including: Tunisia, Morocco, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Turkey, Kenya, Nepal and Tanzania.
In 1984, Dr. Katz became an anesthesiology evaluator for the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners, providing in office inspections for the State of Maryland to certify dental offices which can safely provide anesthesia services.
Dr. Katz has two children and lives on a small farm in Lutherville, Maryland with his partner Nina and a host of animals including, dogs, cats, goats, chickens, ducks, honeybees and miniature donkeys. He is an avid photographer and beekeeper, who also enjoys woodworking, playing guitar and car mechanics.
Rachel Smith, D.D.S.
Dr. Rachel Smith was born and raised in Florida. She received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of South Florida, located in Tampa, FL. In 2012, she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Florida College of Dentistry in Gainesville, FL.
After obtaining her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree, she completed a general practice residency at Cambridge Health Alliance and the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, in Boston, MA. While in residency, she gained comprehensive training in general dentistry, community health and special needs patients. After completing her residency, she began working full time at a practice in Florida until she moved to Maryland in 2015 and started working in long term care facilities. She is focused on improving the oral health and quality of life of her patients.
Dr. Smith currently lives in Gambrills, MD with her husband Justin, daughter Sophia and Chihuahua, Nina. She enjoys traveling, painting pottery and spending time with family and friends.
Michael Kerins, D.D.S.
Dr Michael Kerins graduated with honors with a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Loyola College in Maryland. He then entered The University of Maryland College of Dental Surgery and earned a DDS degree in 2014. Dr Kerins then sought further training and completed a Clinical Fellowship Residency in General Dentistry and Oral Medicine/Oral Pathology at the Perry Point VA/University of Maryland Dental School. He has earned a Certificate of Recognition for High Achievement in Dental Care for Persons with Disabilities. Dr Kerins has served on the University of Maryland Dental School Admissions Committee and is an active member of The American Dental Association.
Dr . Kerins concentrates his efforts on providing comprehensive affordable care for those in need of extensive dental care and is particularly interested in providing anesthesia and dental services for those patients with medical, mental and physical disabilities. He is a gentle,caring and compassionate dentist who likes to spend time with his family, his dog and when time allows, do a little woodworking.
Penelope (Penny) Patchett, RDH, BS
Penny received her Bachelors of Science in Business-Finance from Towson University in 2003. She worked for a number of years in private industry and returned to school to pursue her passion of Dental Hygiene. In 2015 she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Dental Hygiene. She has participated in many community-based programs such as Mission Mercy, Special Olympics and Sealant Saturday. Her focus is educating and customizing hygiene to the personalized needs of each patient. Penny was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Queen Anne’s County where she currently lives with her husband and two daughters. She enjoys the outdoors, animals, snow skiing and boating. In her spare time she helps her husband with his excavating and farming businesses.
Heather Lee, RDH
Heather Lee RDH, graduated from The University of Maryland Baltimore County with honors and attained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry. She then continued her education and completed her training as a Registered Dental Hygienist at The Howard Community College in Maryland. Heather is a frequent volunteer at numerous outreach services, giving her time to provide dental services to those in need with an emphasis on those requiring special care. Her prime objective is to provide honest and ethical dental care for her patients and always strives for for excellence while concentrating on educating patients on how to maintain good dental health. Heather enjoys spending time with her family and her dog.
